In 2000, on my 15th birthday, my dad bought me my first car: a 1992 Geo Metro. I loved it. We rebuilt the entire engine, cleaned out the interior and had it repainted. One night, while passing through an intersection, the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup failed to stop for a red light and slammed into my driver's side door which spun me around once and forced my car out of the intersection. Luckily, there were no other cars around.
However, there were about 10 witnesses. It happened outside of a bar. Go figure. The S-10 was doing about 40 to 45 MPH at impact. He struck a power line support cable following his impact with my Metro. I suffered cuts to the upper parts of both my hands due to them striking the windshield, as well as a broken collar bone.
The driver of the S-10 got to take a trip downtown that night for a number of violations, which included failing to yield to a mechanical device, careless driving, causing an accident with injuries, city property damage, failing to produce a driver's license upon request, and driving with no insurance (which in Florida, also means on a suspended license).
