Both my husband and I survived this accident. On Sunday morning Feb. 11, 2001 during a heavy downpour at approximately 5:30 am we hydroplaned sideways across the freeway over embankment hitting a tree on his side. The tree stopped us from hitting the soundwall head on.
He received the following injuries: separated shoulder, broken left arm, serious tissue damage to left hip, fracture to knee. Was able to walk away after fire department cut us out on passenger side.
I received an open compound fracture of my lower right arm and elbow. I have two plates and 10 pins.
During slide I grabbed the cell phone and dialed 911 for help. Immediately after I dialed we impacted with the tree. This shoved my husband into me and me into door handle while my arm was bent to my hear with the phone. It was difficult to find us because the gully was so deep, but fortunately someone also called on a cellphone and firefighters were able to find us. It took them 45 minutes to extract us. It is now 5 months later and we still have problems but nothing compared to what these photos make you think must have happened. Our claims adjuster had thought we died.
