Hi I'm Tessa and I had an accident near Gainesville, Florida. I was having some new preformance parts put on my Camaro to beef up the horsepower, after the car was done, me and my brother went to the shop to pick it up. My brother insisted that he drive it first to check out how it was running, so I hopped on the passenger seat, and we started driving there. About a mile from the car mechanics shop, there was a 99 crystler van sitting in the median headed the opposite direction, to take his left turn. The, get this, the PREACHER, decided to take his left turn, in our path. My brother slammed the breaks, but we were unable to stop in time, smashing his entire right fender and door. The speed of impact was approximately 55 miles per hour. At the time of the accident, I didnt even realize what was coming, and the next thing I do remember was sitting in the Emergency Room several towns away.

After I came to and had an idea of reality, I realized that I had been knocked out from slamming into the windshield. I had some severe cuts and scrapes on my forehead and neck. My brother, on the other hand, had much more injuries, including a broken leg, shattered ankle bone, dislocated ankle, dislocated 3 of his fingers, and broke two of them, over 100 stitches, and 3 broken ribs. Because of the way his finger and ankle broke, hes going to permanently have internal pins placed. Hes never going to be able to walk okay or have a job being on his feet. His entire dream of having a career in Law Enforcement is ruined because of the accident. He is still in the hospital 2 weeks later undergoing several sergeries for his injuries. Im lucky I didnt come out more mangled than I did. If i were wearing a seatbelt at the time, I probably wouldnt of been hurt at all. Being that we were only test driving the car, and I knew my turn was up soon to drive, I figured not to even put it on, but its when you least expect something like this to happen, it does. About the only thing Ive learned from the accident is that seatbelts help, and accidents are some scary shit! Wear them!!!

Nov 2011- This this the original representative of your 2002 Camaro Car Crash on your website, Tessa. I just wanted to update your website, because I respect since 02 you have kept my pictures and post.

I am now 25--- At age 21 I found out I suffered a spinal fractures at T11 b/c of this accident. There were never any back MRI's, Catscans, or Xrays done while I was in intensive care at Shands Hospital, Gainesvillle, Florida for 3 days! Although, my biggest complaint was back pain. Since the accident, I have had to be on a variety of pain medication, Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Morphine, and Percocets.... The pain never went away in my back, and despite the lacerations to my left eye not mentioned in the previous post... They are only cosmetic. Basically the left side of my head went through the glass, and seen in the pictures my neck hit the dash and made a huge impact.. Impairing me from speech for 6 months!!!

My brother and I eventually sued the driver of the 99 Crystler... Ended up with $350,000 ... After the third the lawyer took, I ended up with $45,000 and the rest my brother kept because of his extensive stay in the hospital. It was not after several years that it was discovered that I actually broke my spine in the accident... And walked out of the ICU from the largest hospital in Florida with a BROKEN SPINE @ T11!!!!! I have gone through every record ever dictated on the stay (now a certified paralegal).

I am now destine to be on pain medication the rest of my life because of a previous non-dictated injury during an accident.
I want to let everyone out there know that you have to be your own lawyer and make sure you are completely OKAY before releasing yourself from an accident. I was 16 at the time of the accident and had to have the signature of my mother. I hope I have the courage to look into this in the future and prove that this came from the accident. The future seems bleek to me at this point actually discovered in an MRI almost 5 years later (during which no time injuries were obtained). Because I have to be on such high opiate pain meds because of my back injuries, I was often to be told  with doctors I was "Opiate Dependant", and although my mother took Oxycontin due to back injuries before the accident in 02. (my injuries sustained worse than hers) I often feel like I am put out because I am so young and classified as a drug seeker.

The epidemic in Florida is disgusting for people in search of pain medication --- For people like me with Fractured Spines and 6-7 Hernations (age 25) who actually NEED the meds... It is hard for me!
I am still yet to meet anyone with my age and criteria. I saw a legitimate doctor for years and is highly known for Pain Management in Florida for his fair Practices.  I will say though, Without $250 per visit Cash and $850.00 per month to fill your scripts, he will not see you. I was released from his office shortly after I lost my business in '09 and requested that he split my script up into 2 '15' day supplies, so that I could afford it. He had no problem of course when I was driving my $120,000 Mercedes to his office and telling him about my ACTUAL problems. Things seemed right when you had the CASH.

Update on my brother that was destin for the Sheriff's Department at the time: He now manages an Aamco Transmission and is successful. His wife is a bitch, but otherwise alright :) He is still obese and because of the weight deals with the titanium in his ankle daily. His fingers healed well, but cannot feel much in them.

Throughout this I wish I could go back -- Back to being a NORMAL 16 year old, without the Car Accident and having back problems (not to mention I won' t EVER leave the house without expensive makeup on my eye)! I feel cheated. The $45,000 I received only lasted a few months when I turned 18, with an abusive ex-boyfriend and hardly seemed to justify what I have to go though the rest of my life... Everyday waking up feeling like a horse just kicked me in the back and knowing there may not be anything I can do with it that day.

After managing an internet business for several years with my husband, I have resorted back to my medications and became a Certified Pharmacy Technician to work within my known fields. The pharmacy industry with medications seems to be such a joke to me here in Florida.. Especially with Pain Medications. I have now been on the top end and low end (medicaid) of the totem pole and it is all still a joke!!!! Surgeries on my injury indicated by doctors would be unsuccessful and lower Thorasic Injuries are complicated with the Equine-... blah blah (where your nerves come out of your spine) So they can't do shit for me! THANK YOU SCIENCE!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN ACCIDENTS WITH LIFE SUBSTAINING INJURIES. --- MAKE SURE THEY ARE DOCUMENTED. -- MY LIFE IS RUINED NOW BECAUSE I DID NOT SPEAK UP WHEN NEEDED.

Thanks,

Tessa
